【英語多益通】三星連環爆 你知道如何用英文要求退貨嗎？

三星Galaxy Note 7八月初登場後，不到一個內已發生數起手機起火燃燒和爆炸事件，收到許多消費者的抱怨信函，於是三星開始召回手機（recall）或讓消費者換機（replacement）。
然而，新機似乎無法解決起火燃燒的問題，迫使三星展開二次手機回收，最後宣佈停產、停賣。但三星的麻煩並未隨着宣佈停賣而休止。幾天後，美國運輸局基於安全考量宣佈全面禁止攜帶Note 7登機或託運，使得Note 7成爲了命運多舛的手機。
在職場上，我們經常會遇到對商家或廠商提供的服務、處理態度不滿意、商品有瑕疵，或訂單處理的疏失等狀況，需要打電話或寫抱怨信，而這也是多益測驗常考的情境之一。此時，若你知道該如何在客訴信函內清楚表達你的需求，或熟悉測驗題型，肯定能事半功倍！
英文抱怨信函的寫作基本上有三個重要的部分，一是表明寫信的目的和產品／服務的資訊（如產品型號，購買時間，地點），接着敘述產品的問題，最後提出希望的解決方式或補償。讓我們從以下範例說明客訴信函重要的句型及字彙：
Dear Sir/Madam,
I’m writing to complain about the poor quality of Kingwood TV cabinet (serial number OPTX256) I ordered on September 24 from your online store. I had read the description advertised on your website and several reviews online, so I had high expectations. However, when I unpacked it from the box, I discovered that the cabinet doors do not shut properly. In addition, when placed on the floor, the cabinet is wobbly on the right side.
（我覺得貴公司網路商場所販賣的Kingwood電視櫃，序號OPTX256的品質很差。我看到網路上閱讀了商品描述和評價，對於產品有高的期待。然而，當我打開盒子後發現電視櫃的門無法關好，而且放在地板上時，電視櫃的右方不平，會晃動。）
通常信件的開頭會表明寫信目的，在此即可用以下幾個句型I’m writing to complain about …I’m writing in regards to／in connection with…I’d like to file／register／lodge a complaint about …
在正式表達抱怨內容時可用file、register，或lodge當作動詞，後面接抱怨的名詞 「complaint」。register常用作動詞當「註冊」解釋，如register for a course（註冊一個課程）、register your car（登記／註冊你的車子）。lodge也常用名詞lodging表示「住宿」的意思，也就是accommodation。
例句：Travel expenses usually cover transportation, meals, and lodgings.（差旅費通常包含交通和食宿。）
而範例中的wobbly是形容詞，表示「不穩，晃動」，反義字有steady、stable等。
接着，這位顧客繼續寫道：I’m extremely disappointed with your product. Therefore, I would like to have this faulty cabinet picked up without extra shipping cost and replaced with a new one.（我對此產品相當失望，因此希望你們將瑕疵的櫃子免運費取回，並換個新的給我）
faulty是形容詞，解釋爲「瑕疵的、損壞的」，類似的字有defective、flawed、damaged等。
在上文中有個重要的使役動詞文法句型：have／get something Vp.p.（have/get＋東西+動詞分詞）
例句I need to have this suit dry-cleaned by Friday.（我需要在星期五前送（幹）洗這套西裝。）
顧客在信函最後寫道：Enclosed is a copy of the invoice as proof of purchase. I look forward to your prompt reply.
Sincerely,（隨信附上發票影本爲購買證明。希望你們能儘快回覆。）
上文中動詞enclose爲「隨信附上」之意，慣用法爲enclose A with B。（enclose的名詞爲enclosure）
例句I’ve enclosed a check with this letter.（我隨信附上支票一張。）
另外，常在信件最底下表示加註附件的「Encl.」正是enclosure或enclosed的縮寫。例如：「Encl.: copy of the receipt for TV cabinet」。
客人提到的proof of purchase即「購買證明」，同理，「身分證明」即可用proof of identity。
文末的prompt這裡當形容詞，是quick（快速）的意思，因此a prompt reply爲儘快回覆的意思。此外，prompt亦可當作動詞，做「促使、導致」解釋。例句Thank you for your prompt reply.（謝謝您的快速回復。）
The strike prompted the company to improve the working condition in the factory.（罷工促使公司改善工廠的工作環境。）
另一方面，當廠商收到顧客的抱怨信時，也應展現誠意並儘快回覆。此時，回覆抱怨的寫作通常包含兩個重點，一是知會收到抱怨信件並致上歉意，二是提出解釋和解決方法如退款（refund）、換貨（exchange），甚至補償和優惠。請看以下範例：
Dear [Name],Thank you for your letter of September 30. We’re sorry that the TV cabinet you purchased on September 24 has not lived up to your expectations.
We will call you to arrange the pick-up of the defective TV cabinet and send you a replacement. You’ll not be charged for the additional shipping.
Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Sincerely,（謝謝你9月30號的來信，我們對你所購買的商品不符合您的期待感到抱歉。我們將會致電安排取走瑕疵的電視櫃並送新的給你，你不用支付額外的運費。我們對所造成的任何不變深感抱歉。）
回覆抱怨信的開頭可用以下幾個句型We’re sorry to hear that you’re not completely satisfied with …We’re sorry to learn about the poor quality of …Thank you for your letter regarding／concerning …Thank you for informing us about …
值得注意的是上文中的片語live up to one’s expectations，解釋爲「達成（某人）的期待／預期」。
多益測驗題1. Fortunately, we were able to get all of the packages _________to our customers before the hurricane struck last week.(A) to deliver(B) deliver(C) delivering(D) delivered
解析：正確答案(D)。本題爲文法題，使役動詞get後面接的是「東西／物品的受詞」。由於東西是被送出，所以被動的動詞分詞形態delivered爲正解。
選項(A)to deliver用於主動句型。此時，使役動詞have、get後面的接法不同，必須特別注意。舉例：get the courier to deliver the packages／have the courier deliver the packagescourier (n)解釋爲「信差」或「快遞公司」。
本題題意爲「很幸運地我們在颶風上週侵襲前已將所有的包裹送出給客戶。」
2. According to the investigation, the derailment of the commuter train last month might have been caused by a _________ brake.(A) falter(B) faulty(C) detective(D) faculty
解析：正確答案(B)。此題爲單字題，選項多爲容易混淆的字。選項(A)falter爲動詞，做「遲疑」解釋，與選項(D)faculty「教員」拼法類似。選項(C)detective爲名詞，是「偵探」的意思，與defective「瑕疵」也相當類似。因此，根據題意，正確答案爲(B)。
本題題意爲「根據調查，上個月通勤電車脫軌的意外可能是損壞的（失靈）煞車所造成的。」※題目中的derail (v)，表示「脫軌」。
